We received this letter from Dawn Fort, mother of a deployed soldier. She graciously permitted us to share it with you:

A story I wanted to share with everyone today…. (I posted this on my son’s private Facebook page for his group)

Pentagon Visit on 9/11/2010

I visited the Pentagon Memorial today and a victims wife saw my ‘Proud Army Mom’ shirt & came up and said, “My husband was lost working here on 9/11, tell your son I am proud of what he is doing for our country and all he is doing it to keep… us all safe!” I was in tears.

Brandon, I just wanted to share with you what a very humbling experience that was for me to hear that not just from a stranger, but from someone personally that lost someone in those horrible attacks that day. We were nowhere near who was left (the ceremony was well over) but she came out of her way to see me and I just wanted you to know that for someone who lost so much to come up and make a comment like that to me was very special to me and I wanted to pass it along to you.

I know you have bad days, but these types of comments or moments are things that should give you the positive energy, strength, and courage to get you through the hard times.

This stranger today, a victim of 9/11, 9 years ago, wants me to thank my son, my soldier for serving our country and all he is doing to keep it safe.

I feel like that is almost the most humbling and most rewarding thing as a Mother someone has ever said to me and I wanted to share it with you and your group.

I love you, keep yourself strong, keep yourself safe, and come home soon!

Remember, there is strong and then there is Army Strong, and you are BOTH!!!! Hooah!!

Fourth of July letter writing campaign

In honor of Fourth of July, let’s all take a moment and send a card, a letter, a note, a postcard or a picture to our troops.

There are three things you can do if you are going to participate.

1. First and foremost, write a letter. Or a card. Or a postcard. Or whatever. And mail it to:
Two For the Troops
Attn: Fourth of July Letter Writing Campaign
PO Box 15447
CHICAGO, IL 60615-5145

2. Go to our facebook invite for the event, at http://www.facebook.com/TwoForTheTroops#!/event.php?eid=108568955858423&ref=mf, and sign up that you are sending a letter.

3. Invite whomever you can and spread the word however possible — especially through facebook, twitter, etc. If the current numbers hold up about 80,000 people will have to know about it before we have 10,000 people commit to sending a letter, so we’ll really need to spread the word over the next couple of days.

If you want to buy a box of cards or two that you can distribute at your Fourth of July party, click here. As long as you order them by Thursday, you’ll have them before the 4th!
